Screening the underside can be an option but it takes a very meticulous hand, missing just 3/4 of an inch can result in a new rodent reinfestion. Snap traps will work but they can also catch other animals, like your neighbors cat. On top of that, they need to constantly be checked, emptied and rebaited. Either you get under the home and do it or you pay an exterminator to do it…which is quite expensive.
The most common option is to put out rat bait, or rat poison (same thing). But even rat poison needs to be kept fresh or the rats will not eat it. That means it needs to be changed about every month.
